Vacancy

Senior Automation Engineer

Location: Oldenzaal

Employment type: Full-time (32–40 hours)

About this role.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will work on designing, programming, and commissioning automation solutions for industrial processes. At iAUTOMATION, we deliver projects across industries such as pharmaceuticals, energy, chemicals, and food production. These projects range from new builds and modifications to upgrades, migrations, and service activities, in both greenfield and brownfield environments.

In this role, you take on a key technical position within projects. You design automation solutions, program control systems, and lead commissioning activities. You collaborate closely with customers and colleagues to deliver practical and reliable solutions for complex automation challenges.

As a senior engineer, you also have the opportunity to take on a leading role within projects. You support and mentor junior and medior engineers and contribute to decisions regarding technical solutions, system architecture, and project approach.

At iAUTOMATION, you will be part of a team of specialists where collaboration and knowledge sharing are central. There is plenty of room for initiative and technical input, both internally and towards customers.

What will you do?

In this role, you are responsible for designing, programming, and maintaining PLC systems, such as Siemens or Allen-Bradley. You develop and optimize HMI and SCADA visualizations and design complete automation architectures and technical solutions for a variety of projects.

You prepare and execute FAT and SAT tests and take a leading role during commissioning, both on-site and remotely. When complex issues arise, you analyze the root cause and implement structural solutions.

You also prepare technical and project documentation and play a key role in coaching and guiding junior and medior engineers. You actively contribute to technical standards, project approaches, and process optimizations, and support technical proposals and quotations when needed.

What does the role offer?

We offer excellent employment conditions and actively invest in your development through internal training and certifications. You will also have strong growth opportunities within the fields of automation and OT security.

You will work on diverse projects across various industries, providing both challenge and variety, within an informal yet professional working environment.

You will be part of a team of approximately 30 colleagues, where collaboration and knowledge sharing are key.

What knowledge and experience do we ask for?

You have completed an MBO-4 or HBO degree, for example in:

  • Industrial Automation
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • (Technical) Computer Science
  • or a comparable field

In addition, you have at least 8 years of experience with PLC programming and industrial automation.

You have extensive experience with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols and are familiar with FAT/SAT processes and commissioning of industrial installations. You are capable of independently delivering projects or project components and communicate effectively with both colleagues and customers.

You have a good command of Dutch and English; German is a plus.

Within our projects, we work with a variety of technologies depending on the customer and application. Experience with one or more of the following is a plus, but flexibility and willingness to work with different technologies are just as important: Siemens TIA Portal / Step7, Allen-Bradley, SCADA systems such as WinCC, Ignition or Wonderware, motion, drives and robotics, and industrial networks such as Profinet and Ethernet/IP.
