Vacancy
Medior Automation Engineer
Location: Oldenzaal
Employment type: Full-time (32–40 hours)
About this role.
As a Medior Automation Engineer, you will work on designing, programming, and commissioning automation solutions for industrial processes. At iAUTOMATION, we deliver projects across industries such as pharmaceuticals, energy, chemicals, and food production. These projects can include new builds, modifications, upgrades, migrations, and service activities in both greenfield and brownfield environments.
In this role, you independently handle parts of projects and take responsibility for designing and implementing control solutions. You collaborate with fellow engineers and customers to deliver the best technical solutions.
In addition to project work, you analyze and resolve system issues and contribute to improving existing installations. You actively think about optimizations and support the development of junior engineers and interns.
At iAUTOMATION, you will be part of a team of specialists where collaboration and knowledge sharing are central. Together with colleagues and clients, you focus on delivering practical and reliable solutions for industrial processes.
What will you do?
In this position, you are responsible for designing, programming, and maintaining PLC systems, such as Siemens or Allen-Bradley. You develop and optimize HMI and SCADA visualizations to ensure processes are efficient and transparent.
You prepare and execute FAT and SAT tests and provide clear reporting. You also independently carry out commissioning activities, both on-site and remotely. When issues occur, you analyze the root cause, resolve them, and proactively think about how to prevent similar problems in the future.
You document technical processes and software thoroughly and contribute to maintaining high-quality project documentation. Based on your experience, you also guide junior Automation Engineers and interns in their development.
Finally, you actively contribute to process optimizations and technical improvements, helping to continuously enhance systems and ways of working.
What does the role offer?
We offer a competitive salary and strong employment conditions. There are plenty of opportunities for training and certifications, allowing you to further develop your skills.
You will work on a wide variety of projects across different industries, providing both challenge and diversity. The role offers room for independence and initiative, while working within an experienced engineering team.
You will be part of a team of approximately 30 colleagues, where collaboration and knowledge sharing are key. Travel may be part of the role but is generally limited.
What knowledge and experience do we ask for?
You have completed an MBO-4 or HBO degree, for example in:
- Industrial Automation
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechatronics
- (Technical) Computer Science
- or a comparable field
In addition, you have at least three years of experience with PLC programming and industrial automation.
You have experience with HMI/SCADA systems and are familiar with industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Modbus, or OPC UA. You also have practical knowledge of FAT/SAT processes and commissioning.
You work independently, take initiative, and have strong problem-solving skills. You communicate clearly and professionally and have a good command of both Dutch and English; German is a plus.
Within our projects, we do not rely on a single technology. The choice of systems depends on the customer and environment. Experience with one or more of the following is a plus, but your willingness to learn new technologies is just as important: Siemens TIA Portal or Step7, Allen-Bradley, SCADA systems such as WinCC, Ignition or Wonderware, and industrial networks such as Profinet and Ethernet/IP.
