Vacancy

Junior Automation Engineer

Location: Oldenzaal

Employment type: Full-time (32–40 hours)

About this role.

Do you want to work in industrial automation and further develop yourself as an engineer? At iAUTOMATION, you will collaborate with experienced colleagues on designing, programming, and commissioning control systems for industrial processes.

We work on projects in industries such as pharmaceuticals, energy, chemicals, and food production. These projects range from new builds and modifications to upgrades, migrations, and service activities, in both greenfield and brownfield environments.

In the beginning, you will mainly work alongside a senior engineer. You will assist with modifying and testing software, support ongoing projects, and be involved in FAT/SAT testing and commissioning. This way, you will gradually learn the profession in practice.

At iAUTOMATION, you will be part of a close-knit team of specialists where you can always discuss technical solutions. Together with your colleagues and the customer, you will work towards the best solution for each process. We value motivation and interest in technology more than years of experience.

What will you do?

In this role, you will focus on programming and optimizing PLC systems, such as Siemens or Allen-Bradley. You will also develop and improve HMI and SCADA visualizations, ensuring processes are clear and user-friendly.

You will test control software during FAT and SAT phases and support commissioning activities, both on-site and remotely. When issues occur, you will analyze the root cause and provide effective solutions to restore optimal system performance.

You will also ensure clear documentation of software and technical processes, helping to capture and share knowledge within the team.

Although your main focus will be on software, you will also work with electrical installations, panels, and hardware. This will help you develop a broad understanding of complete automation systems and the interaction between software and hardware.

What does the role offer?

We offer a competitive salary and good employment conditions. You will receive internal training and guidance from experienced engineers, enabling you to develop quickly.

You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of systems and technologies, providing valuable and broad experience. There are plenty of growth opportunities within the company, and you will work on diverse projects across different industries.

You will be part of a team of approximately 30 colleagues, where collaboration and knowledge sharing are key. Travel may be part of the role but is generally limited.

What knowledge and experience do we ask for?

You have completed an MBO-4 education, for example in:

  • Industrial Automation
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • or a comparable field

You have basic knowledge of PLC programming and a strong interest in industrial automation and process control.

You are eager to learn, motivated, and open to developing new skills. You have a good command of both Dutch and English; German is a plus.

Within our projects, we do not work with one fixed technology. The choice of systems is often determined by the customer’s environment and requirements. Experience with one or more of the following is a plus, but your willingness to learn new technologies is more important: Siemens TIA Portal, Step7 or PCS7, Allen-Bradley, SCADA systems such as WinCC, Ignition or Wonderware, and industrial networks such as Profinet and Ethernet/IP.
